RJC Engineers’ (RJC) Executive Principal Joette Decore and retired RJC Principal, Gino Ferri each received a Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal in recognition of their significant contributions to the province of Alberta.

Joette serves as Chair of the Board for the University Hospital Foundation and on Norquest College’s Board of Governors. She is Co-Chair of the Red Tape Reduction Committee for the Alberta Government. She has also been involved in other not-for-profits, such as serving on the Women Buildings Futures' Board and working with the Loran Foundation. With a passion for giving back, she actively volunteers in her community and was part of the first all-female hockey team in the Alzheimer’s Hockey Tournament.

“I have been very blessed in my life. I want to pay it forward. One of the ways that I can accomplish this is through volunteering” shares Joette. “Volunteering enriches my life by providing me with a sense of purpose and connection to my community. I know I am making a difference.”

Gino generously gave his time to numerous Boards and foundations. He was especially committed to the autism society of Edmonton, where he served as President and later on the Board. For more than 25 years, Gino worked to promote awareness of autism spectrum disorder and fundraise for affiliated local and provincial organizations. He also made efforts to influence legislation as a method to improve support services for Albertans on the autism spectrum.

“I grew up watching my parents give their time and commitment to the Italian community in Montreal, and I always knew the importance of this. Today, my daughters and their families are all involved in the community of Edmonton and surrounding areas, including my grandchildren. I am happy to see them continue the family value of service” says Gino.

The commemorative medals mark the 70th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada. It is a tangible way for Alberta to honour Her Majesty’s service to Canada. The Medal program is part of the Platinum Jubilee year celebrations, organized by the Government of Alberta.
