RJC Engineers Raises $57K for Alberta Wildfire Support
- Details
‘Many of our colleagues, families, and friends have been affected’
RJC Edmonton leads the charge in support of the 2024 Alberta Fires Appeal — raising a grand total of $57,000 in response to the wildfire in Jasper National Park.
“We have all seen the news of the devastating wildfires over the past weeks, including the destruction and devastation of the beautiful town of Jasper,” said RJC’s Executive Principals Joette Decore, Mike Moffatt and Roger Steers in a joint statement on Aug. 12.
“Many of our colleagues, families, and friends have been affected by this wildfire, especially in Jasper.”
Evacuation orders were issued to Jasper residents on July 22 around 10pm as flames moved dangerously close to the town. Only a few hours later, more than 25,000 people were forced out of the park. The Incident Management Team plans to have all re-entry criteria met by Friday, according to the Municipality of Jasper.
Edmonton RJCers quickly rallied together to donate $3,055.70 in support of the Canadian Red Cross. RJC Edmonton and an anonymous donor matched these funds, bumping up the total to $9,167.10. Combined with the Provincial and Federal Governments’ pledge to match all donations dollar for dollar, this resulted in over $27,000 raised.
Additionally, RJC Engineers has committed to a corporate donation of $10,000. When matched, this brings the funds up to $57,000.
These funds matter because the Canadian Red Cross works with provincial and municipal governments as well as Indigenous leadership to support communities impacted by the 2024 Alberta Wildfires. Donations to the Alberta Fires Appeal help those impacted in Jasper and across Alberta with immediate relief efforts on top of risk reduction for future natural disasters within the province.
Frank Cavaliere, Managing Principal at RJC Engineers in Edmonton.
“There are very few in our office who have not been to Jasper National Park,” said Frank Cavaliere, a Managing Principal at RJC Edmonton.
“Many of us have memories of time spent there, some even have family who live there.”
“During these challenging times, our thoughts are with the brave firefighters and communities affected by the Alberta wildfires,” wrote RJC’s Executive Principals.
“Thank you, RJC Edmonton, for leading our efforts.”
The Government of Canada and the Government of Alberta will continue to match every dollar donated by Canadians to the Canadian Red Cross 2024 Alberta Fires Appeal from July 25 to Aug. 24. This means every $1 donated becomes $3.
