John Harder

MEng, P.Eng. | Principal Emeritus

As a recognized authority on post-tensioning systems, John advises the City of Calgary Building Regulations and Assessment Departments on the safety and economic impact of corrosion in post-tensioned structures. He was a recipient of a Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) External Research Grant on an Investigation Protocol for Evaluation of Post-Tensioned Buildings, which included surveys for the real estate and engineering industries in Canada.

John has been involved in over 600 existing facility evaluation and restoration contracts over the past 40+ years, including over 350 post-tensioned structures. He continues to provide base building engineering services for over 20 million square feet of existing buildings which allows him to closely track and predict useful lives of building components, prioritize maintenance programs and assist clients with expenditure planning.

John obtained his bachelor and master’s degrees from the University of Alberta. The University of Alberta engaged John while he was at RJC to work on a joint research program to assess reliability of PT strand tension testing, evaluate alternative means of assessment and variables affecting testing procedures. He has authored numerous articles on the durability and maintenance of structures.
