Halifax Shopping Centre Parking Garage Rehabilitation
The Halifax Shopping Centre is a bustling hub located in the west end of Halifax, Nova Scotia and serves as Atlantic Canada's largest multi-building shopping centre.
The two-story commercially zoned mixed-use facility houses both office and retail space.
To accommodate its many patrons, the centre includes three multi-level parkade structures built in 1989 and 1990, located on the north, east and south sides of the shopping facility.
The parkades each rise 3-levels, with a combined area of approximately 570,000 sq. ft. In 2010, RJC completed a detailed condition assessment of the parkades and formulated a phased 10-year rehabilitation program, which addressed the immediate structural concerns for all three structures, while maintaining client budgets.
Our completed scope of work involved the complete replacement of all expansion joint seals from the surface of the upper parking levels of all three parking structures; localized repair of all corrosion related concrete deterioration on the suspended slabs as well as the columns and walls of the upper parking level of the South parking garage; and localized replacement of the asphaltic waterproofing system from the surface of the upper parking level of the South parking garage. In 2015 RJC was retained to undertake an updated detailed condition survey assessment and the phased rehabilitation of the three parking structures.
Our work on the site continues, following our 2015 Update Condition Assessment and Capital Plan Report.
