University of British Columbia Geography Building Rehabilitation
RJC worked with Chernoff Thompson Architects to provide building envelope engineering for a rehabilitation of the University of British Columbia (UBC) Geography Building.
The Geography Building is not a classified heritage building, however the 1924 wood-framed building has many historic defining elements that required historically sensitive interventions.
The walls consist of face sealed slop dash stucco on two-way wood lath strapping secured over building paper to the shiplap sheathing.
The original windows are single glazed double hung wood framed into punched openings.
The project included partial replacement of stucco cladding, localized rehabilitation of the structural wood-framing, refurbishment of the original wood windows and installation of new perimeter drainage.
